Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to visit my page. I am a former musician turned full-time-mommy; when I am not changing diapers or walking a baby up and down the hall, I enjoy photography and sewing children’s clothing. I opened my Etsy shop, LilyandHazelDesigns, in 2015 with the intent of sewing classic, timeless pieces that would photograph well. In the process, I discovered not only great satisfaction from the process of creating, but an intense desire to learn more about the process of how our clothes are created. This blog is intended to follow my journey as I rethink the way I consume, dispose and create.
A few things to know about my creations:
-I strive to use good old-fashioned techniques on every single piece in my shop. That means taking the extra time to include French seams, clipped notches so that the curves lay flat, hand stitches when appropriate, and other techniques that you just don’t find in store-bought items anymore
-Every piece is one-of-a kind
-I love to upcycle fabrics and materials when I can. This not only helps to create less waste, but I strive to pass the savings on to my customers by charging only for the cost of labor and minimal materials. If an item is priced higher, you can know that there was a greater amount of love that went into the process of creating it.
